Workplace Giving

A commitment to making Workplace Giving a key fundraising initiative can bring rewards like no other income stream. Donations through CAF are free, reliable, regular, long term and usually untagged to any project. Effective Workplace Giving programs engage corporate employees simply and easily at no cost to the charity. In July 2012, pre-tax Workplace Giving celebrates 10 years in Australia. CAF is proud to have led a consortium to lobby the Federal Government in 2002 to bring about pre-tax Workplace Giving as know it today.

A leader in this field, CAF assists companies with the development, implementation and ongoing management of Payroll Giving programs. We provide back office administration, streamlined accounting, distribution of monthly donations and reporting. Costs are minimised for employers and not-for-profits alike. Our proprietary software enables employee donors to give to any of the 25,000+ Deductible Gift Recipient charities in Australia. We also provide services in New Zealand and other overseas countries for clients that operate at a regional or global level.

Although some charities understand and support this income channel, a recent research study conducted by CAF Australia suggests there is still a lack of commitment by Australian charities to this high value group of donors. 65% of employee donors said charities do not communicate well on how they use Regular Monthly Workplace Giving donations; and 75% of employee donors said charities do not communicate well on how they use Disaster Appeal donations.

To receive Payroll Giving donations a charity must hold Deductible Gift Recipient status in Australia.

CAF suggests that charities include their details on our Charity Search section on our website. This service is often used by employee donors and other donors to find a charity when they are considering whom to donate to.

As well as providing regular monthly donations, CAF provides Workplace Giving services for one-off appeals such as Disaster Appeals or other company or employee-driven fundraising appeals. All appeals data and funds are detailed separately for simple and accurate reporting.

  • CAF’s quarterly e-newsletter to our database of over 5000 contacts addresses topical sector issues, trends, the work of selected charities and the impact business and Government is having on communities through effective charitable giving.

Let Donors Know How their Donations are Used

To help donors understand the impact their monthly donation can make, we encourage charities to include information about what certain dollar amounts can achieve on their online profiles on the CAF website. When a donor has a tangible example of what their contribution will do, they are more confident that the money is going to be used in an appropriate manner.

CAF provides all donor contact details to the charities that we distribute funds to. CAF is completely open and transparent when it comes to donor information, except of course if donor anonymity is requested.
