    Employee Payroll Giving - Oxfam Community Aid Abroad (CAA)

    Background
    • Oxfam Community Aid Abroad is an Australian, independent, not-for-profit, secular, community-based aid and development organisation.
    • Across 31 countries, Oxfam CAA works in partnership with local communities to overcome poverty and injustice. Their work includes long-term development projects, responding to emergencies and campaigning for a more just world.
    • Oxfam CAA has been nominated by many employees as their preferred charity to contribute to via payroll deduction.
    • Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) carries out validation to ensure the organisation is eligible to receive tax effective gifts. CAF then makes a monthly 'payroll giving' grant to Oxfam CAA, along with hundreds of other tax effective charities.
    • Oxfam CAA has been benefiting from CAF's workplace giving program since 2001. During the first three years of the program over $200,000 was donated to the work of Oxfam CAA, addressing poverty and injustice around the world.

    • To put the impact of workplace giving contributions in context, it costs around $16,000 to provide all the materials needed to build a village school in rural Cambodia, to help that community access its right to education.

    • As at September 2004, almost 500 individuals from over 40 organisations, in both the private and public sector, across Australia have nominated to regularly support Oxfam CAA's work.

    • In addition to monthly grants, Oxfam CAA receives donor details on a monthly basis from CAF. This information is extremely valuable to Oxfam CAA and is used by them to nurture these very important donors, to thank them and to keep them informed of the difference their contributions are making.
    • Donor details can be kept anonymous to donors preferred charities and Oxfam CAA appreciate and respect and such decision made by donors.
    • With CAF administering the payroll giving program, there is no impact on Oxfam CAA's resources. No processing or receipting is required on Oxfam's part. Funds are allocated directly into Oxfam CAA's bank account with nothing left for them to do, other than use the funds to support their vital work.
