Giving Considerations
Starting on the philanthropic passage can be daunting. Like other significant personal decisions, there are some fundamental issues you should consider before commencing your philanthropic journey:
- Do I want to build a corpus for perpetuity or do I want to transfer funds regularly to flow through to charities?
- How much should I give/can I afford to give each year?
- Do I want to support specific causes and/or charities?
- Do I have any personal beliefs that will impact my decision of which causes/charities I will not support?
- Do I want to give only to Australian charities, or would I like part of my giving to be cross border?
- Do I want to support projects for one term only or for multiple years?
- Do I want to visit projects?
- Do I envisage my foundation continuing beyond my death?
