New Foundation Account - Private Donor - Anonymous

Name of Donor Private Donor - Anonymous
    Background
    • A switched on banker stretched $2,500 of his own money into a $15,000 foundation account of the CAF Community Fund. Then he turned the initial donation into a $20,000 grant for a CCF Australia water aid project.
    • Making a before tax donation of $5,000 (he receives a tax and Medicare benefit equal to $2,350) and through encouraging both a current and previous employer to match his donation, the foundation account reached $15,000.
    • Then, using the strategy of making grants to community programs which attract government matching, he was able to make a $5,000 grant from the foundation account to the CCF Australia water appeal which the Federal Government had committed to match 3:1 - effectively turning the $5,000 grant into a grant of $20,000.
    Goals
    • To build up a substantial donation pool through encouraging matching of his donations
    • To leverage the impact of grants made from the foundation account by having a preference for community programs attracting matched funding from either the government or private sector.
    Key Messages
    • Matching donations to leverage the impact of his charity dollar
    • Committed to effective giving
    Evaluation

The donor regularly contacts CAF and reviews take place regarding the effectiveness of each grant, and to ensure grants are made to community programs attracting matched funding
